How we all fund pornography 1
1. How We Fund Pornography
I’m going to be talking about how we fund pornography. Today, I’m speaking to parents, I’m speaking to elders, I’m speaking to school owners, teachers, and guardians — people who are in charge of teenagers and young adults. This episode is absolutely for you.And if you’re a teenager listening to me, please stay tuned.
2. What Parents Told Their Children About Sex
Last year, we conducted a study with our old clients and people who follow our content, particularly Generation Z. We asked them a simple question: What did your parents tell you about sex?
The most astounding response came from a young woman, about twenty-three years old, who told us that her mum had simply said: A man is a stone and a woman is an egg. If the stone falls on the egg, it will crack.Yes, that was all she was told about sex. A man is a stone and a woman is an egg; if the stone falls on the egg, the egg will crack.
3. The Problem With These Analogies
Sexually, the analogy implied that men are stronger and can get away with sexual crimes, but women cannot. Biologically, he can’t get pregnant; she can. So perhaps that is what the mother was attempting to convey. But it was the strangest analogy to use.
4. What Boys Learn From This Messaging
Following that analogy through, if there had been a boy in the room, what he would have heard is: you can go ahead and be promiscuous. Nothing is going to happen to you.He would hear: you can sleep around, you can do whatever you want. You are the strong one. You are the hero of the story.
There was also that popular analogy of a man being a key and a woman being a lock — that a lock opened by multiple keys is useless, but a key that opens multiple doors is a master key.
I grew up hearing this on the street and often wondered: so because he has a penis, he is a key? Wow.
5. How We Train Boys to Be Irresponsible
All of these ideas create a mental configuration that boys go scot-free. So we technically cannot be surprised when boys behave badly.
You know why? We taught them to be silly. We encouraged it. We told them they had nothing to lose. It’s evident in the number of unwanted children young girls are giving birth to.
6. The Consequences for Girls vs Boys
The boys get them pregnant and then claim they are not interested, and there is no punishment. She is the one carrying the pregnancy on her body.
He can go scot-free.There is nothing forcing him to take responsibility. So we are raising our boys with sexual irresponsibility.Where Pornography Comes In
7. Now, how does all of this relate to pornography?
Whenever we mention pornography, people tend to get irritated. They get uncomfortable. They dislike the conversation because it is messy and dirty.
But we cannot overlook the statistics of porn every year. Many of the people who wrinkle their noses in public are watching porn in private. Some people even believe pornography is good for sex education. But how does it connect to real life? The distance between the two is very far because porn is a movie.
8. Pornography as an Escape From Responsibility
If porn is the model, then young people begin to want sex that doesn’t require responsibility. Whether they are girls who don’t want to get pregnant, boys who don’t want to father a child, or people avoiding the possibility of STIs — pornography becomes the option
I like to define pornography as: free.
