To explore your desires safely, you must first pay attention to what triggers those desires. For example, you may be watching a film, a kissing scene appears, and suddenly you think, “I want to do that.” It is not the kiss itself, but the journey that led to that moment of wanting.
You might also be having a conversation with a friend and something in that exchange makes you feel tingly or awakened. The question is: are you paying attention to these subtle triggers?
Until you become aware of what stirs your desire, you cannot know what you truly want to explore. And without knowing what you want to explore, you cannot explore safely. This lack of awareness can make you reckless because you cannot define “safe” for yourself without clarity.
For some people, “safe” means avoiding pregnancy. For others, it means avoiding situations where they may feel disrespected or degraded. Some people feel comfortable exploring certain kinks and accept the dynamics involved, while that same dynamic may not be safe for you.
