How Do I Honour the Healed Version of My Story?
Being the healed - Ask Liza Express Answers
Recognising That You Are Truly Healed
How do you honour the healed version of your story? You begin by understanding that you are healed — not just healing, but healed. In the areas of your life where you have already gained healing, stand firmly in that reality.
Stop Acting Like Your Past Is Your Present
Do not act as though you are still in a place you left years ago. If everyone around you seems depressed, that does not mean you must behave depressed too, especially if the last time you felt that way was six years ago.
Acknowledge What Truly Happened
Honour your story by acknowledging what actually happened. You were traumatised. Someone raped you. And now you have recovered from the fear of sex. Acknowledge where you are today. Acknowledge the work you put in so that you could heal.
Do Not Undermine Your Healing
Do not undermine your healing when you are alone. Do not undermine it in the presence of someone who is still in process. And do not undermine it in front of someone who hasn’t even started their process.
Release Survivor’s Guilt
Do not allow survivor’s guilt to make you live like a victim when you are no longer one. It is not your job to be the messiah — to save everyone or shrink yourself so that others do not feel bad because your life is progressing and theirs is not.
Seek Support If You’re Struggling
If this is something you still struggle with, please speak to a therapist. Click the “book a therapist” link in the description and meet with one of our therapists. Let us walk with you and help you stop undermining the healing you have already experienced.
